GIBSON LANE/LONG PLANTATION ROUND - a gorgeous walk of just over 3 miles (route map at bottom of page)
Distance 3.17 miles Approx. 1 hour walking time.
Starting point in Melton Industrial Estate. Access from A63 at the North Ferriby Junction.
Plenty of roadside parking at Gibson Lane below the railway line or in the industrial estate.
Start at the Heritage Garden Centre.
Cross the railway at the level crossing and continue down Gibson Lane until you reach the Wood Yard Gate.
This used to be a continuation of Brickyard Lane down to the river bank, but now you need to go through a hole in the fence on your left hand side, and turn immediately right and follow the footpath down to the river, where you will find another hole in the fence down in the right hand corner.
Proceed through the fence and turn immediately left on the River Bank.
There are some superb views across the river and upriver to the Humber Bridge from this section of the walk.
Continue on this path along the River bank to Brickyard Lane.
Walk a few yards up Brickyard Lane until you reach some large tree trunks. Turn right into the field and follow the hedge back to the river bank, and continue on the top of the river Bank until you reach the wood (Long Plantation).
Enter the wood and follow the river bank until you reach a sign post for the wolds way, Turn left and follow this footpath up through the wood. Crossing the railway bridge part way up, continue on until you reach the A63. Turn left and follow the paved footpath crossing a roundabout and continuing on to the next roundabout, which is at Gibson Lane.
Turn left here and continue back to your starting point at the Heritage Garden Centre, home of Seasons Cafe, where there is a good choice of meals and snacks. Highly recommended!
